Dear friends, digging in my files I found a report which I did not have an opportunity to read, now this is done and I think its worthwile to circulate it. Again it shows, as did the Fibl - Report with the 21 - years field trial in Switzerland, that close to the Alps things look different and organic farming is definitely in the upwind, although it is admitted in the report that the increase fell to 2 % in 1997, compared to a growth rate (number of farms) of 39% between 1994 and 1995. It strikes me to see that the question of modern breeding is not touched at all, so carefully avoiding statements on molecular methods - or, horribile dictu - genetic engineering. It has to be realized that organic farming in Austria and Switzerland is done with modern high yield crops, some of them also went through radiation breeding.... The report comes officially from the Ministery of Agriculture, the original denomination as follows Bundesministerium für Land- und Forstwirtschaft - Das Lebensministerium.
